Objective determinants include factors related to colour, shape or size of an object or stimulus. They are mentioned below.
(1) Intensity: A strong or intense stimulus draws our attention immediately as compared to a weak stimulus. For example, as compared to a doorbell of house, loud and constant sound of a siren immediately catches our attention.
(2) Size: Size is also important factor. We notice a bigger object instantly as compared to smaller one, For example, A taller building draws our attention immediately.
(3) Contrast: Contrast is also one of the important determinants to draw our attention. For example - very short lady with a very tall man attract our attention immediately. (4) Motion As compared to still or stationary object, the moving objects will draw our attention immediately. For example - a vehicle in motion then the one parked in parking lot catches our attention faster.
(5) Change: Change is also an important determinant to attract our attention. For example sudden change in a person's behaviour draws our attention instantly.
(6) Novelty: Novelty also plays an important role in drawing our attention. When there is some novelty or newness in a normal situation, it draws our attention. For example - a political leader who puts on kurta and pajama in routine life, draws everybody's attention. when he wears formal clothes someday.
(7) Repetition: Frequent repetition of any stimuli also attracts our attention. For example repetition of advertisement of any particular product draws our attention sooner or later.
(8) Colour: Variety of colours also draw our attention faster than black and white. Therefore posters or cover pages of books are printed in different colours.
