Some of India's leading reformers and British officials were of the opinion that Western education should be introduced all over India while some Hindus and Muslims believed that education should be given only in school and madarasas respectively. The Charter $1813$ allowed the Christian clergy to establis educational institutions in India. It was also decided to use $Rs. 1$ lakh per annum education under this system. A priest name Alexander Duff founded schools giving Western style education in India. However, the Arab Persian and Hindi education systems continue to operate during this time. During the time Lord William Bentinck, the East India Company proceeded towards imparting Western education under the Charter of $1833\ AD.$ With this. British policy was clear that financial aid wou be provided to promote English education only As a result, English education began india in $1835\ AD.$
