Question
केवलाघो भवति केवलादी ।

Answer

One who eats alone commits sin.
Explanation: This statement has been taken from Rucha-6 of Mandal-10 in the Rig Veda. It appears in 'वेदामृतम्'. It is a preaching from the Veda which contains the significance of alms or chaity. This hymn indicates that it is useless if a person who does not have understanding gets food. The food should be shared with others. A person who does not even think of sharing his food and eats alone commits sin.
This hymn indicates the importance of alms or charity and states that a benevolent person has a very special position in the society.
In this hymn, a person who does not give alms is condemned. Such a person does not share true understanding. It is useless when a person without true understanding gets food. Eating food alone is like killing. Thus, a person who eats alone cat sin. Therefore food should be shared with others. It is rightly said that, 'तेन त्यक्तेन भुग्जीथाः'.
This hymn motivates human being to give alms according to his capacity ""गौरवं प्राप्ते दानान्न तु वित्तस्य सञ्चयात्' Thus, a benevolent person motivates others for the well-being of every living creature. It is rightly said that -
दानेन भूतानि वशीभवन्ति
दानेन वैराण्यपि यान्ति नाशम् ।
परोडपि बन्धुत्वमुपैति दानैः
दाने हि सर्वव्यसनानि हस्ति ॥
