Mammalian gametes are generally of two types the ovum or egg in females and the sperm in males. They are different from each other on account of their chromosome content which XX is in females and XY in male gametes.
They are involved in sexual reproduction; the main advantage of sexual reproduction is that it produces various adaptive features in the offspring which helps them to cope up with the environment.
