There is an enemy beneath our feet - an enemy deadlier for his complete impartiality. He recognizes no national boundaries, no political parties. Everyone in the world is threatened by him. The enemy is the earth itself. When an earthquake strikes, the world trembles. The power of a quake is greater than anything man himself can produce. But today scientists are directing a great deal of their effort into finding some way of combating earthquakes, and it is possible that at some time in the near future mankind will have discovered a means of protecting itself from earthquakes. An earthquake strikes without warning. When it does, its power is immense. If it strikes a modern city, the damage it causes is as great as if it has struck a primitive village. Gas mains burst, explosions are caused and fires are started. Underground railways are wrecked. Buildings collapse, bridges fall, dams burst, gaping crevices appear in busy streets. If the quake strikes at sea, huge tidal waves sweep inland. If it strikes in mountain regions, avalanches roar down into the valley. Consider the terrifying statistics from the past 1755: Lisbon, capital of Portugal - the city destroyed entirely and 450 killed. 1970: Peru: 50,000 killed. In 1968 an earthquake struck Alaska. As this is a relatively unpopulated part, only a few people were killed. But it is likely that this was one of the most powerful quakes ever to have hit the world. Geologists estimate that during the tremors, the whole of the state moved over 80 feet farther west into the Pacific Ocean. Imagine the power of something that can move an entire subcontinent! This is the problem that the scientists face. They are dealing with forces so immense that man cannot hope to resist them. All that can be done is to try to pinpoint just where the earthquake will strike and work from there. At least some precautionary measures can then be taken to save lives and some of the property. When GOD made man he bestowed him with blessings in abundance. God gave him strength, not just physical strength but also the strength of mind to bear the weight of the burdens of his life. He needed to confront issues, find solutions for them and move ahead in life ,taking problems in his stride. God gave him beauty that would attract others to him yet his inner beauty was what was more important because that made him a good human being. If his character was not good, his physical beauty would never be of any credit to him. God gifted wisdom to him,to enable him to learn, understand and contribute to the future generation in as many ways as he can. Life and this world’s secrets were understood in their full element by man and he enjoyed the honour and pleasure that any successful human being could enjoy in his life. This made man arrogant and proud. God had forseen this too, so he gifted man with repine restlessness too so that he won’t forget himself blindly in this make believe life on earth. Man lives happy and unhappy, rich and poor, stressful and stress free, content and discontent , healthy and unhealthy, worried and relaxed as the river of life takes him towards his destiny.
Reasons for the failure of students. Show the following information in a pie diagram. Gives the values in percentage as per your own perception.
The failure of the students in the examinations is a very serious matter. There are many reasons for their failure.
The students do not have proper study habits. They read without understanding. They spend their holidays and spare time in watching T.V. They ignore their study for the sake of T.V. films and serials. Parents also do the same. There is no motivation. They cannot improve themselves without motivation. The environment is also very important. Today, lack of proper learning environment also comes in the way of their success. Proper guidance to the students will help to overcome the problem of failure. But there is no proper guidance. 'Low aim is a crime', and this happens with the students today. Students fail to achieve success because of the bad company and wastage of time in playing.
The failure rate can be minimized by proper guidance, motivation, strong will, keeping good company, developing proper study habits and not wasting their time playing games and watching T.V. Prepare a web diagram with the help of the above information.
The following points given below shows various methods to improve English language.
Transfer information into a pie chart . And value each method as per your perspective
1. Think in English
If you think in your native language and then try to speak English, you'll always have to translate between languages. Translating isn't an easy thing to do! Even people fluent in two or more languages have trouble switching between languages.
The solution is to think in English.
2. Talk to Yourself
Whenever you're at home (or alone somewhere else) you can improve English speaking with your favorite person: yourself.
If you're already thinking in English, try speaking your thoughts out loud. Read out loud, too. Practice is practice, and even if you don't have anyone to correct your mistakes, just the act of speaking out loud will help you become more comfortable speaking English.
3. Use a Mirror
Whenever you can, take a few minutes out of your day to stand in front of the mirror and speak. Choose a topic, set a timer for two or three minutes and just talk.
Talk for the full two or three minutes. Don't stop! If you get stuck on a word you don't know, try expressing your idea in a different way. You can always look up how to say that word after the two to three minutes end. This will definitely help you find out what kinds of words or sentences you have trouble with.
4. Focus on English Fluency, Not Grammar
When you speak in English, how often do you stop?
The more you stop, the less confident you sound and the less comfortable you become. Try the mirror exercise above, but challenge yourself to speak without stopping or stammering (taking pauses between your words) the entire time.
5. Try English Tongue Twisters
Tongue twisters are series of words that are difficult to say quickly. One example is "The thirty-three thieves thought that they thrilled the throne throughout Thursday." Try saying this a few times! It's not easy.
6. Listen and Repeat
Do you Watch TV shows or You Tube videos in English? Use them to improve your fluency. Choose a short part of a show and repeat it line by line. Try to match the tone, speed and even the accent (if you can). It doesn't matter if you miss a few words, the important thing is to keep talking. Try to sound just like the native speakers on the show.
