National Policy: 2001 and Gujarat State's 'Nari Gaurav Niti' covers many aspects for women empowerment.
The main purpose of which is the empowerment, upliftment and development of women.
1. Educational programs:
A number of programs have been organized by the Government of Gujarat to accelerate women's education.
(i) Kanyakelavani Rathyatra:
To increase the enrollment rate of girls in primary schools and to improve the quality of primary education, 'School Entrance Ceremony' is organized all over the state through public participation.
(ii) Honors of Outstanding Students:
Special scholarships are given to the students who get high marks in the board's public examination of standard 10 and 12.
Girls' interest in education is aroused by arranging interactions with esteemed students.
(iii) Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan:
Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, programs are organized to create awareness about girls education by using the media on a large scale.
(iv) School Dedication:
Girls' education is accelerated by setting up schools in remote villages or by increasing the facilities in schools.
(v) Bicycle distribution:
The situation of obstruction in girls' education is overcome through bicycle distribution program.
Girls wishing to study in upper primary school are given bicycles to go to school at a distance of 3 km from their village.
(vi) Distribution of Grain:
The school drop out rate is reduced by organizing free food distribution programs to boost the positive attitude of the parents of the tribal area towards girls' education.
Free foodgrains are provided to the guardians of girls studying in Std. 1 to 7 in tribal areas and more than 70% attendance.
In addition, girls' education is promoted by organizing programs on the right to education (RTE), Saptadhara, Gunotsav, etc.
2. Economic programs:
Economic freedom is essential for women's empowerment.
Economic self-reliance empowers women.
Provision has been made in the national policy for economic self-reliance of women.
Economic programs in national policy:
The following programs are organized under the national policy to awaken and empower women.
To provide information about employment opportunities to women working in unorganized sectors.
Provide information on equal pay rates.
Informing women about credit and savings.
Eliminate unequal distribution of economic functions.
Provide information about scheduled working hours.
Provide information on work environment safety.
Provide information on qualifications required for earning money in organized sectors.
Economic programs in Gujarat:
The Government of Gujarat has organized a number of economic programs for women empowerment, which are as follows:
(i) Training classes:
Demonstrations are organized to train women to grow vegetables at home, canning as well as kitchen gardening through demonstrations.
(ii) Areas of business:.
Skill development is accelerated by organizing programs informing women about the occupations and employment of organized and unorganized department.
(iii) Performance and sales:
Exhibition and sales programs are organized at national and state level under the objective of "Employment from Skills".
Such programs encourage self-employment and women involved in the home industry or cottage industry.
(iv) Krishirath Mela:
Krishi Rath Mela provides scientific information related to agriculture to women engaged in agriculture to increase the quantity of agricultural products and to get more employment with less labor.
(v) Women's Group and Employment Program:
In order to accelerate the economic self-reliance of women, various programs are organized to inform the Sakhi Mandals and women's groups about the government's employment programs.
Such programs provide information on market system, lending schemes, Bayat schemes etc.
3. Health oriented programs:
The Government of India's National Policy for the Empowerment of Women places special emphasis on women's health.
The Department of Health and the Department of Child Welfare of the Government of India make a number of efforts to provide health information by organizing programs related to women's health.
(i) Social evils and women's health:
Programs are organized to provide information about the deteriorating health of women due to anti-women sentiments of the society.
E.g., health risk from child marriage, damage to a woman's body due to illegal sex testing.
(ii) Maternal Welfare Programs:
Women's health is protected by providing scientific information to women on fertility, breastfeeding and child rearing.
(iii) Family Welfare Programs:
Women are provided with information on family planning methods in a scientific manner by providing information on limited size family and maternal and child welfare programs.
Programs are organized to explain the usefulness of primary health center and the disadvantages of traditional obstetrics.
(iv) Programs related to nutritious food:
Weekly programs are organized to reduce the amount of malnutrition in women.
Efforts are being made to create awareness about the immune system.
In addition to the above Government of India programs, the Government of Gujarat also organizes the following women's health programs:
(i) Save Betty, Raise Betty Campaign:
The "Save Betty, Raise Betty Campaign" has been launched to address the gender imbalances in the society and to maintain the health of women by accepting the birth of a girl child.
Under this campaign programs like rallies, plays, camps, seminars, conferences, seminars, discussion meetings etc. are organized.
(ii) Awareness programs:
Awareness programs are organized to change the narrow mindedness related to women's health.
Awareness programs are organized by the health authorities by increasing the facilities of the health centers to change the narrow public opinion about the health of women in rural and tribal areas.
