Dr. Sadao and his wife Hana carried the wounded American prisoner of war to their house. They kept him in the father’s room. Sadao decided to operate him to remove the bullet from his wound. Hana washed him and helped to give him the anesthetic. Both wanted to help the man but were afraid that the authorities would arrest the doctor on grounds of treason. Though the servants left their home because of the white man they managed and saved his life. Finally he also helped the man to escape from the authorities and go away safely.
