Question
What is a rock ? Explain its major types.

Answer

  • All solid objects on the earth or on the earth's crust are called rocks.
  • A covering made of solid matter above the earth is called a soft cover which is made of solid matter. Which is called a rock.
  • Rocks are formed by the combination of different substances. These substances are called minerals. Thus, an organized quantity of one or more minerals is called a rock.
  • There are three main types of rocks depending on the formation process.
$(1)$ Southeastern rocks $(2)$ Rocky rocks
$(1)$ Southeastern rocks: Due to the warmth of the earth's crust, rocks formed by the reddening of its reddish element magma are called igneous rocks.
  • Since these rocks originated first, they are also called primary rocks.
  • Southeastern rocks are divided into three main subdivisions.
$(A)$ Inland sedimentary rocks:
  • If the magma in the earth's crust settles deeper into the earth's crust, the rocks formed in that place are called inland or subterranean rocks.
  • These rocks are harder.
