Placenta: A specialized tissue embedded in the uterine wall.It contains villi on embryo side and blood spaces which surround villi on the mother’s side.
  1. Functions$:$ Provides large surface area for glucose/nutrients and $O_2$ to pass from the mother to the embryo.
  2. Wastes generated by foetus are transferred into the mother’s blood for their removal.
