Question
What per cent of these figures are shaded?
✓
Answer
(i) It is clear from the figure, that shaded parts are 3 out of 4 Shaded parts in fraction$=\frac{3}{4}$ $\therefore$ Percentage of shaded part $=\left(\frac{3}{4} \times 100\right) \%=75 \%$ Hence, 75% of the figure is shaded. (ii) From the figure, fraction of figure which is not shaded $=\frac{1}{16}+\frac{1}{16}+\frac{1}{8}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{1+1+2+4}{16}=\frac{8}{16}=\frac{1}{2}$ i.e. half of the figure is shaded. Percentage of figure which is shaded $=\left(\frac{1}{2} \times 100\right) \%=50 \%$ Hence, 50% of the figure is shaded.
