Question
Why do compounds having similar geometry have different magnetic moment?

Answer

The compounds having similar geometry may have different number of unpaired electrons due to the presence of weak and strong field ligands in complexes. If CFSE is high, the complex will show low value of magnetic moment and if CFSE is low, the complex will show high value of magnetic moment. For example, the $\left[\mathrm{CoF}_6\right]^3$ is paramagnetic moment. For example, the $\left[\mathrm{COF}_6\right]^3$ is paramagnetic but $\left[\mathrm{Co}\left(\mathrm{NH}_3\right)_6\right]^{3+}$ is diamagnetic.

$CCl_4$ and water are immiscible whereas ethanol and water are miscible in all proportions. Correlate this behaviour with molecular structure of these compounds.$CCl_4$ is a non-polar covalent compound, whereas water is a polar compound. $CCl_4$ can neither form hydrogen bonds with water molecules nor can it break hydrogen bonds between water molecule, therefore, it is insoluble in water. Ethanol is a polar compound and can form hydrogen bonds with water, which is a polar solvent, therefore it is miscible with water in all proportions.
