(2) This power is a precautionary step and is exercised by the government when it feels certain that the activities of an individual are anti-social. (3) The objective of 'Preventive Detention' is not to punish the detained person without trial but to prevent him/her from committing a crime. (4) Under the relevant Act, a person cannot be detained for more than three months. (5) The order of 'Prevention Detention' can be cancelled as per the directive issued by a Judge of the High Court or the Advisory Board (6) The final decision regarding detention of a person is taken by the State Government.
