Gautam Buddha was the founder of Buddhism. He was born in the Republic state of Kapilvastu in the foothills of the Himalayas in $566\ BC$. His childhood name was Siddhartha. His father’s name was Shuddhodhana and mother’s name was Mayadevi. His wife’s name was Yashodhara and son’s name was Rahul. Siddhartha was a Kshatriya. He was the prince of Shakya Republic state. He wanted to save the whole human race from the miseries of this world. For this, he wanted to go to the forest and do penance to obtain knowledge. So he left his home. He attained enlightenment on the day of Vaishakhi Purnima as he sat meditating under a peepal tree. Gautam Buddha first preached at Sarnath. He spoke to the people in Prakrit and Ardhmagadhi languages. He said, “No one is higher or lower by birth. The person who does good deeds is considered higher and who does bad deeds is considered lower. Perform good deeds and be kind to others. Be kind to animals. He who does not rage against angry person is great. Never ask anyone’s caste. Surrender to religion and scholar.” He called desires, the cause of suffering. He died (got Nirvana) at the age of $80$ years in Kushinara (Bihar) near Vaishali.
