MCQ
$Assertion :$ The change in air pressure affects the speed of sound.
$Reason :$ The speed of sound in gases is proportional to the square of pressure.
  • A
If both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.
  • B
If both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion.
  • C
If the Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
  • If both the Assertion and Reason are incorrect.

Answer

Correct option: D.
If both the Assertion and Reason are incorrect.
d
Speed of sound in cases is independent of pressure because $v = \sqrt {\frac{{\gamma P}}{P}} $ At constant temperature, if $P$ changes then $\rho $ also changes in such a way that the ratio $\frac{P}{\rho }$ remains constant. Hence there is no effect of the pressure change on the speed of sound.
