Question
Establish relation between electric field intensity and electrostatic force.
✓
Answer
i. Let Q and q be two charges separated by a distance r. The coulomb force between them is given by $\vec{F}=\frac{1}{4 \pi \varepsilon_0} \frac{Q q}{r^2} \hat{r}$ where, $\hat{r}$ is the unit vector along the line joining Q to q . ii. Therefore, electric field due to charge Q is given $\vec{F}=\frac{\vec{F}}{ q }=\frac{1}{4 \pi \varepsilon_0} \frac{ Q }{ r ^2} \hat{ r }$ iii. Electric field at a point is useful to estimate the force experienced by a charge at that point.
