  • Which is the most ancient method in the field of psychiatry.
  • It is also called psychological approach.
  • According to the psychoanalytic approach, childhood experiences, traumas, unwanted situations give rise to mental illness.

  • Steps: There are three steps of psychoanalytic method. (1) Price evacuation (2) Resistance (3) Transfer

  • Resistance means stopping to speak, forgetting, physical illness, etc., during treatment.
  • In transfer, the patient expresses love, affection, hatred, jealousy, anger, etc. to the therapist.
  • There are two methods of treatment in psychoanalysis theory. (1) Free association method (2) Dream interpretation method.
(1) Free association method:
  • In this method, the patient is asked to express his thoughts and impulses without any fear or hesitation.
  • Here the matter presented to the therapist is properly interpreted by the therapist to free him from the things and impulses in the unknown mind.
(2) Dream interpretation method:
  • In 1900, Freud wrote a book called Dream Interpretation.
  • In his view the dream is the highway of the unknown mind.
  • In this method the dream is interpreted psychologically.
  • According to Freud, the control of the ego decreases during sleep and the things in the unconscious mind are manifested in the dream.
  • Which are mostly symbolic.
  • Here the therapist psychologically analyzes the patient's dreams and dispels them.
  • Freud's method has a special place in the field of psychiatry.
  • But, the therapist needs to be experienced and trained.
