The destroyer of affection the dumbell (a cone shaped equipment used by wrestlers for exercise). Dumbell is a cone shaped exercising equipement used by wrestlers for the exercise of their shoulders and hands. It is made up of wood. It is heavy and strong. Its blow can destroy even hard substances. The shlokas in this stotra help to destroy affection. Therefore this stotra is called मोहमुदगर.
Too much liking for any person or thing converts into affection which causes pain and difficulty for any human being. So the poet advises to remove affection. Here, the question arises that how to remove affection? The answer is affection can be removed by non- attachment and the realisation of truth. In this stotra, Adi Shankarachrya has preached to destroy affection with the help of non-attachment and by realisation of the principles of truth.
