Question
पादैः पिबति पादपः।
✓
Answer
Translation :That which drinks water with its leg is tree. This shloka has been taken from 184th chapter of Shantiparva of Mahabharata composed by Maharshi Ved Vyas. There is a dialogue between Bharjwaj and Bhrugu, in which it is said that - that which drinks water with legs is called 'पादपः' (tree). A tree nourishes its different parts with its legs (roots). A tree also has a system of carrying water and food to its different parts through its roots. Thus Acharya Bhrugu proves that a tree is also a living creature and drinks water with its legs.
