Meaning: Everybody trusts the people of his own clan. This statement is spoken by Dushyant in the 5th act of (अभिज्ञानशाकुन्तलम्) composed by the great poet Kalidasa. This statement reflects the eternal truth of the society.
Due to the effect of the curse given by the sage Durvasa, the king Dushyant rejects Shakuntala. Then she thinks of showing him the ring given by him. But she didn't find the ring in her finger so she gave a sad look towards Gautami. Gautami reminded her that the ring must have fallen in the water at Shachitirth. Then Shakuntala reminded the king about the baby deer she brought up as a son who didn't drink water from Dushyant. But when she offered it water, it drank happily. At that moment, the king said," Everybody trusts the people of his own clan." When king Dushyant rejects her, she reminds him about this statement and the Gandharva Vivah. But the king considers it as a lie.
