Sun is considered to be the main source of energy on the earth. During most of the days, we feel the heat and sunlight (insolation) of the sun. Solar energy can be used to generate electricity through solar panels. 'Solar Energy Project' is located at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. It is considered to be the largest among the solar energy project of Asia. Gujarat is considered to be a leading state in terms of solar energy in India. Gujarat obtains the solar energy through solar panels and from the solar projects fixed on rooftops of canals. A solar park with a capacity of $590\ MW$ capacity has been set up at Charanaka of Patan district on the non usable land. Gujarat Energy Development Agency $(GEDA)$ has installed a cold storage of 10 tonnes capacity at Chhani near Vadodara. Solar panels are installed in the villages not having electricity, for street lights, for irrigation in the farms and for $TV.$ The Government of Gujarat provides financial assistance (subsidy) for installing the solar roof top system.It is decided to set up a solar power plant at Modhwa village near Mandvi, Bhuj in Gujarat. A desalination solar energy plant is established to convert saline (brackish) seawater into fresh (drinkable) water. Today, the prevalence of solar powered devices have been on increase in the use of equipment in the country.
Institutions have been established at state and national levels in the direction for doing some research to use the solar energy.
