Question
अरे मुर्ख बटुक, पदे परिवर्तय ।

Answer

O fool ! Change the pada.
Explanation: This statement has been taken from 'परितुष्टा यास्यति' a part of the 5th Act of the play 'मृच्छकटिकम् 'composed by the great poet Shudraka. This statement is spoken by Kumbhilak (the servant of Vasantsena) to Vidushaka.
The love between Charudatta and Vasantsena was commendable. Vasantsena goes to meet Charudatta in heavy rain. Her servant Kumbhilaka reaches Charudatta's house with the news of arrival of Vasantsena. He asks indirect questions to Vidushaka. In the series of questions, the second questions he asks is like this Who protects Susamruddha village? Vidushaka was in doubt. He asks Charudatta about the answer. The answer was army (sena). Then Kumbhalika asks him second question, which is when does the mango tree blossom? The answer to this question is spring (vasant). Then Kumbhalika asks Vidushaka to combine both words. Vidushaka combines both the words and speaks senavasant, means he speaks reverse of what he is expected to speak. At that moment, Kumbhilaka asks him to change the pada and somehow he manages to make Vidushaka speak the name of Vasantsena. Thus, this incident indicates the skill of Shudraka of generating laughter
