The following are the effects of human behaviour on the environment. (1) Misuse of Natural Resources : There are limitations of capital received naturally from the environment. Nature has given us most invaluable gifts like air, water, food, fuel etc. For our existence, the proper use and conservation of natural resources is extremely necessary. Our actions are contrary to what is desirable by nature. Our actions which go against the environment create a threat for our own existence.
(2) Waste and Garbage : We produce a huge amount of waste material from sewage to garbage through our activities. It is a serious problem for municipal corporation, co-operative units and government to dispose garbage and sewage. We all know that sewage water when flushed to rivers directly pollute the water of rivers. So the river water become unfit for human consumption. The problem of sewage and garbage is complex. Some waste is biodegradable or can be destroyed but things like plastic bags can not be destroyed.
Recycling waste papers, glass, plastic and metal and reusing them is necessary for the conservation of environment. Efforts should be made for the development of positive attitude of the people to participate in pro-environmental activities.
(3) Dirt : Habits of people are responsible for the dirt on the road and public places, For example : spitting, blowing the nose in open, vomiting, taking bath on the road, washing clothes and utensils, pour out the household garbage on the road, throwing the dirt on the road after cleaning the gadget, throwing paper dishes and peels of the fruits here and there, throwing lot of water in the same place and creating mud, leaving the animals unattended who spread dirt by passing urine and feaces on the road. Mostly people believe that it is not their responsibility to maintain cleanliness and health. Some people keep their courtyard clean by throwing the garbage in the courtyard of their neighbours.
The world would not remain worth living for our descendants if these problems are not tackled in time. This danger has been caused by human population growth, over consumption of thing and lack of conservation of natural resources. Psychologists can play a vital role in saving the world from environmental disasters.
